UNO

this post is LATE. poor em. the second child is not as spoiled as the first. i actually started it once, but between emers pushing buttons and me clicking too fast it got deleted.

 MY "SO BIG" BABY...

Emers turned one August 2nd. In my mind I was thinking "ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no way my baby is one. I demand a recount." He is my last. He'll always be my baby and I can't stand that he grows so fast.

Emers at One:
 30 1/2 inches tall (Ash was 30)
24 lbs (Ash was 23)
head circumference higher than 97th percentile
(we grow big babies)

Emrick got his new teeth the same week as his birthday. He grew three on top and two on the bottom, all at the same time. He is a sweet and patient baby. He will sit in his crib and play with his animals and patiently wait for me to come get him. He watches everything with his big eyes and drinks it all in.

Emers is persistent. Persistently naughty. He knows what he wants to do and he will do whatever it takes to do it. Even if its something he shouldn't. He really likes to unroll the toilet paper, push the buttons on our TV system, and pull things out of the cabinets. I never had to childproof with Ash. If I said no, he didn't do it. If I tell Em no, he's bound and determined to now do it.

Em has such a fun personality. He's more reserved than Asher was. He doesn't smile at just anyone, but if he likes you he will scream and smile when he sees you. He plays peekaboo and laughs at himself. He is pretty adorable. My favorite little thing he does is stretch out on his belly on the floor and play with some little toy he's stolen from Ash. Just laying there all lazy like and playing. I find that to be just about the cutest thing.

Em's favorites:

Favorite Toys:
Electronics (phones, ipad, anything with buttons)
Prayer Bear (he snuggles it all the time and sleeps with it)
Soccer Balls
Mostly anything loud with buttons to push and lights

Favorite Foods:
Fruit (any kind... mango is iffy)
He'll eat just about anything, but fruit is always the winner.

 Favorite Treats:
Vanilla Wafers
Kit Kats
Suckers
Mini M&Ms

Em doesn't talk as well as Ash did at this age. He has a few words, but he mostly jabbers in baby talk. We get mama, dada, buba (ash), ki (kitty), baba (bottle), and some random close sounding stuff.

Em and Ash actually get along really well. Ash is old enough he wants to be the big kid and he really likes to take care of Em and help him. They like to putter around together and share treats.

Now that he's a year and one month he's decided it's time to walk. He's been trying to go farther and farther and at this point he can basically make it across the room. He's still a little teetery, but he does pretty good for a little guy.

When Em came there was a lot going on in my life. He rode along through the storm with me with such patience. When it comes to Em, I really miss my dad the most. I wish he could see him growing into such an awesome little man. And I know my dad would be one of the people who would appreciate his little personality the most. Hopefully he gets to watch over him a lot and sees it.

We are so lucky to have this special little guy who brings so much fun and laughter into our lives.

Best buddies

Emers and his dad have a special bond. Em is Tom's little mini me and he just loves his papa. It is so cute to watch his face light up when he sees him and he'll start clapping and yelling da da!!!

I love that they are so smitten with each other. Ash and I are still best buds (unless dad will take him fishing, then he could care less if I'm involved).

I couldn't have picked a better dad for these boys. Happy fathers day love!

Happy to be naked...

Em loves his bath time so much. I'm not sure if its the actual bath part, or the being naked part. Either way, he loves getting in the tub and playing in the water. As soon as I take him in the bathroom he gets REALLY exited.

I'm not gonna lie. If he's having a fussy day (he really only fusses when he's tired) and I need to buy a few minutes of happy baby time, I will put him in the bathroom and pretend he's going to take a bath. Always works...

The snuggler...

My baby loves to snuggle himself to sleep.

He won't snuggle with me during the day. And he doesn't want to be held to go to sleep. He just wants to hold your face, or put his arm on you.

And if I'm not available to snuggle... he's open to substitutes:

The half birthday...

Emers is officially six months old today! It feels like just yesterday he was born and he can't be that old yet.

Emrick has been the happiest baby. I love when he wakes up in the morning... rubs his eyes a little, then looks at me and just grins from ear to ear.

He didn't smile as quick as Asher did. He waited until closer to 8 weeks. And he reserves his smiles for when he really wants to give them, but he is just a happy happy baby.

He jabbers a lot just like Asher did. He will lay in his bed and talk himself to sleep at night. Or just look at you and try so hard to form words with his little mouth while he coos. It's pretty adorable. I'm pretty sure he said dadadada the other day, but he hasn't done it again since. He also says mmmmm when he eats. I think we will have two talkers on our hands.

At six months these are Em's favorites:

FOODS:
- bananas (real or baby food)
- pears
- apples
- baby cheetos
- water bottles (acts like its Christmas morning when he sees them)
- banana bread
(see the running theme there... only fruit and no vegetables. doesn't like them. barely will eat his turkey and rice etc.)

TOYS:
- stuffed animals (he's a snuggler)
- mirrors
- iPad (baby piano)
- balls
- spoons and drum sticks

ACTIVITIES:
- hanging out with Asher
- taking baths
- jumping
- peek a boo

LEARNING:
- sits (still a little rolly)
- says ohhhh when you pat his mouth
- maybe says dada?

Em will always laugh at Asher when he does peek a boo. He is also very ticklish and laughs when his neck or sides are tickled.

Em loves his Dad a LOT. Anytime he sees him he starts kicking and yelling. He doesn't reach for people yet, but I have a feeling when he does it will be for daddy.

Em can sit pretty good right now and he kind of snuck that up on us. I usually sit him in the crook of the couch with some toys while we are hanging out. And when he's on the floor I always put him on my lap. Then a few days ago I sat him by himself to see what he could do and he just sat there. By himself. Like "duh mom... I've been doing this forever and you didn't notice."

Differences between Ash and Em... Ash is a comedian and always smiling or laughing. Em is very happy, but a little more reserved.

Em is such a cute boy. We are so lucky to have amazing kids. I have a feeling he will be VERY smart and catch on to things quick. I can't wait to see more of this little guys personality as he grows.

Introducing Em...

Emrick Foster Davies

August 2, 2011
7 pounds 14 ounces
Born at 8:30 am

Tom and I had been debating over names forever. We couldn't agree on one. Tom liked names like Teegan and Jasper, and I liked Cohen and Jack. We had already agreed on the middle name though, Foster... like uncle Rory's middle name (which I think was Tom's dad's uncle). I was pretty much settled on naming him Cohen and Tom had pretty much given up and said I could name him whatever. Two days before I was supposed to go have him, Tom said he just couldn't name him Cohen. We had to find something else.

So we had a day to pick a name. Something we hadn't been able to do for months. We literally spent like three hours throwing different names out. Nothing was sticking. The closest we got to a consensus was Rizen, but we didn't love it.

I started thinking of names that incorporated my dad's name, Rick, in a more modern way. I asked Tom about Emrick and he was instantly like I love it. We bounced it around for a few hours and it just stuck. We finally figured it out. I love that it's strong and unique, and it has some family meaning. Best of all... Emrick means "immortal", which is awesome!

My delivery was scheduled by c-section on the 2nd at 7:30. My paperwork said it would actually start about 2 hours later, and to call at 5:30AM and make sure the time would work. I called at 5:30 and they said be here at 6:00AM. Yikes! I had just rolled out of bed and was determined this delivery would be better than the last. I wanted my hair at least decent and a mild amount of makeup on. I told the lady she would have to give me 20 extra minutes.

When we got to the hospital they told me I was actually supposed to be there at 5:30 and the c-section was supposed to happen at 7:30... so they started rushing me through everything.

They took me to room 12... and I cracked a few jokes about thank heavens it wasn't 13 like last time. I mean what hospital even has a room 13? It's crazy. I started getting dressed and a nurse came in and said I was in the wrong room. They had already set me up in room 13. I was like you are joking? You heard me joking and now your playing a joke on me, right? Nope. I thought about it for a few minutes. The c-section happens in the surgery room, so it wasn't like I was actually going to have much happen in room 13, so we moved.

From there... it's kind a blur. They took me in the surgery room, gave me the numbing block, and got started. I was really nervous because last time I wasn't numb and could feel everything. I kept wondering if what I felt was normal and I was just a wimp? But it turns out this time I was really numb and felt hardly anything. I kept telling Tom to look over the curtain and see what was happening because I couldn't feel anything. He wouldn't of course. He didn't want to see any of that again.

The anesthesiologist got a kick out of my story. I told him after Asher was born I told Tom that the anesthesiologist was so sweet. He had been rubbing my hair and telling me that I was all right. Tom was like... ummm, that was me. I was pretty out of it at that point.

The baby came and it was very weird to be so aware of everything this time, vs being knocked out (they eventually had to knock me out last time because I could feel it). It was great to see the baby right after and watch Tom bond with him.

Emrick has been a great baby so far. Asher is in love with him and always wants to hold him and love him. He likes to have him lay in his bed with him for a while at night, and he will show him books and read him stories. It is very sweet.

We are so lucky to have two such cute boys!
